What to Wear Guide: Lifestyle Photo Sessions

comfy & classy

I suggest wearing something you already own, that fits you well, and that you know looks good on you.

Does that mean you can’t buy a new outfit for your shoot? Of course not, silly.

Colors & Patterns

I love neutrals. And this doesn’t mean only grays & browns—every color has a muted version. Navy blue, olive green, mustard yellow, etc. Earth tones typically compliment skins tones far better than bright colors do.

Patterns are fabulous, just try not to mix too many together. Let's have your wind blown hair make your photos wild instead of clashing pattern combos. Flannels are always good. Delicate florals. Think through the location we'll be shooting at and pick stuff that will make sense with your surroundings.

Fit & Style

Broken in. Move-aroundable. Loose & breathable enough to stay cool if it's hot, and snug & cozy enough to keep your toes warm if it's freezing out.

Will we be running around on the beach? Go barefoot. Hiking through the woods? Probably want to avoid heels. Dodging cow pies at the farm? You get the idea.

We want what you're wearing to compliment the area we're shooting in and not be a distraction to you when it comes to temperature & movement.

Props & Themes

Bring sunglasses, a hat, jewelry, your pup… I'm a big fan of real-deal expressions & interactions, so let’s build a campfire, pick apples, make ice cream sundaes, catch a drive-in movie, teach the kids how to make pancakes, etc. etc.

P.S.

Keep in mind, these photos are for you and your dear family! Don’t worry about what other people do for their photos.

If you still have questions, drop me a note. I’m here for you.
